So nice of you to check out my blog!
I'm a mummy to four little boys --at the moment all aged under six. We're privileged to have a singleton at each end, with twins in the middle. Our family life is further enhanced by two cats and two dogs.
We live in the downtown of a city in Canada, and while we love to get out in nature, we're dedicated urbanites.
For almost six years I was a stay-at-home mummy, and I have just recently re-joined the workforce and begun the process of re-imagining my career (I have not returned to what I was doing pre-kids). In full-on role-flip fashion, my partner is now stay-at-home daddy, while still running his own small business!
My partner and I dream big, but seem to have a knack for not making money. As a result, we tackle a lot of projects ourselves and we have to think outside the box when faced with a challenge.
I was inspired to start this blog in response to random strangers stopping me when I was out with the four boys and two dogs and asking, "Are they all yours?" and finishing with, "I don't know how you do it!" Other mummies would add, "And I only have two (or three)!"
I really wasn't sure what "it" was that they were referring to. I felt like a walking disaster almost all the time, lurching from one state of chaos to the next throughout the day. And I thought that if people --and especially parents-- knew the reality of what passes for routine, organization and planning in our family that they might feel a little better. Like that they're as simultaneously all-together and not-all-together as we are; like that they can shine in some areas of life but not in all and certainly not all the time.
Ultimately, what I want to share is that to fight off those nagging insecurities regarding our parenting and those feelings that somehow everybody else has an orderly life, well-mannered kids and a clean house, we have to get Realistic and adopt an attitude of Adjusted Expectations.
How that outlook plays out in my life is what this blog is about. I hope it encourages you and even brings some sunshine into your day. You're very welcome to share you own thoughts or stories, or to leave a comment on what I've written. After all, it takes a village, right?
